Arco

The Project

The logistics of carrying out this work whilst the building was fully operational meant that very close liaison with the client was essential.

This, coupled with the height of the steelwork (up to 30m from ground level), required much forward planning.

Specialist access equipment was also required, including the use of Z135 access equipment which assured safe access and egress to the very highest surfaces of the steelwork, where weather forecasts, particularly wind speed, came into consideration.

Our scope also included treatment to the cut edge protection of the roof sheeting, which also required us to erect scaffolding to provide edge protection to both the eaves and skylights of the building. This was run concurrently with the steelwork painting ensuring the programme and time on site kept to a minimum.

Finally, and as part of our team, the specialist abseilers Total Access, part of the Arco family, accessed the roofing steel support that was unable to be reached from the ground level.

Specification

The steelwork to the building had not been painted since the building’s construction, so the steelwork was treated and painted to a 15 year maintenance specification using a Sigma Paint System. Corroded areas were ground down to bare steel before bringing forward using a 4 coat two pack epoxy paint system.
